This article tells of the true story of Jasvinder Sanghera, of how she was locked in her room at the age of 16 for refusing to marry a man that was chosen for her, and how, against the odds, she escaped. Still in her teens, she ran away from her home in Derby, to start a new life in Newcastle, forcing her to cut all ties to her family, who never spoke to her again.
Since this, Jasvinder helps others who are in the same situation as she was. She set up the charity, Karma Nirvana, which is an award-winning British Human Rights Charity supporting victims of Honour Based Abuse and Forced Marriage.
