The training has been designed to increase knowledge and deepen understanding of these issues and is free of charge to those working in Warwickshire.  It is a 1 day introductory training course offered to practitioners from all voluntary and statutory agencies in Warwickshire.

The course is designed to take forward some elements of the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy 2015-18, examining and exploring:

  • The range of harmful practices known to be taking place in Warwickshire and the UK.
  • The definition, key features and some known factors that contribute to various harmful practices, focusing primarily on Female Genital Mutilation, Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence.  Other harmful practices will be discussed briefly.
  • The key signs and symptoms of harmful practices that service users/clients are likely to present with to a wide range of agencies and practitioners in the county.
  • How to encourage disclosure safely and sensitively from clients/service users experiencing FGM, FM, HBV or other harmful practices.
  • How to identify and respond to the risk factors associated with various harmful practices in line with legal requirements, agreed local safeguarding guidelines and other procedures.
  • How to refer appropriately and provide survivors/victims with access to resources and services in Warwickshire and nationally where appropriate.

The training will need to be booked using the learning platform, WILMA and you will need an account to do so.  Anybody can register for a WILMA account, you do not have to be a member of Warwickshire County Council.  To access WILMA and find out further details about the Harmful Practices training, training dates and venues, please click here.
