As part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, the Warwickshire Hate Crime Annual Report for 2019 has been published, outlining the picture of hate in the county from the last 12 months.

From August 2018 to July 2019, Warwickshire Police had 839 reports of hate offences, equating to a 1% rise year-on-year.

Other headline figures show:

  • Race remains the most common characteristic targeted by hate in Warwickshire, with 554 crimes and incidents reported to Police
  • Sexual Orientation related hate has seen the largest increase in reported offences this year, with an increase of 41% year-on-year (130 offences)
  • 70 hate offences relating to a victim's disability were reported. This strand has the largest decrease in reports, of 26%
  • 41 offences were related to religion or beliefs - a decrease of 15%
  • Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough has the highest volume of hate in the county

In addition to this, Warwickshire's Report Hate Now website had 131 reports made to EQuIP, on behalf of the Hate Crime Partnership. Report Hate Now gives victims the choice to reporting to EQuIP or Police.

Warwickshire's Schools reported 95 prejudiced related incidents to Warwickshire County Council - though schools are only duty bound to report on race.

As part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, the Hate Crime Partnership are hosting 'Warwickshire's Cake Not Hate Get-Together' 11:00 - 14:00, Saturday 19th October at the Spa Centre in Leamington Spa.

In a change to previous years, the data for this years reports are broken down by hate crime strand.

In addition to the statistics for hate crime, the report also covers what the Hate Crime Partnership has been doing this year in response to hate crime. This includes last years 'Love Instead of Hate' event, the Hate Crime Charter and the 2019 Be Cyber Kind competition.

The plans for the Countywide Hate Crime Partnership over the next 12 months are additionally set out.
